Tiramisu was invented in Veneto in the 1960s or 1970s — the exact restaurant is still argued over — and the name translates roughly as "pick me up", because of the coffee. That bitterness is the entire point of the dessert, and it is what most tiramisu-flavoured products leave out.

This bar does not. Instant coffee goes into the filling alongside cocoa powder and a milk-cream base, so it finishes bitter rather than simply sweet. Kunafa underneath supplies the textural contrast that ladyfingers give in the original.
